Student Testing
It is not too soon for your son/daughter to begin the planning process for their future. Even though college, post-secondary training, or a full-time job may seem remote right now, students definitely should not wait until their senior year to start making post-secondary plans.
The process begins with testing. The following tests will assist your son/daughter in getting information necessary to make good decisions for high school and their career to follow.
PLAN - 10th Grade:
All 10th graders are required to take the PLAN test. The PLAN consists of four sections: 1) To evaluate their present academic skills and abilities 2) To evaluate their interests 3) To evaluate their study skills, and 4) To develop goals based on their unique needs and plans. The PLAN test is given in the fall semester.
American College Test (ACT) - Grades 11 and 12 (Cost $29.00):
All colleges and
universities and some community colleges require incoming freshmen
to take one of two entrance examinations, the ACT or the SAT.
Most schools in Nebraska prefer the ACT; however, they will
accept either. This test is given five to six times a year.
Registration packets are available in the Guidance Office
and students are asked to mail these on their own or they may apply
online at www.actstudent.org. We have found if you have registered
once by paper, the online version is much faster to re-register for
future tests.
ACT PLUS Writing -Grades 11 & 12 (Cost $43.00):
This is a NEWER option that
has been added to the ACT test. Some colleges
are requiring this test. Students will need to check with
their school choice to see if they need to take it. Students
can also check the College Handbook in the guidance office for
college requirements.
ACT TEST DATES 2006-07:

Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT) - Grades 11 & 12 (Cost

This test is usually required for students planning to attend a college on either coast or the Southwest. A new version with a writing section added will replace the former SAT test. It is not optional like the ACT writing assessment. This test is also given several times a year. We encourage juniors to take this or the ACT test on the April or June test date(s). (Juniors may not be far enough along in math or science classes to recommend taking the test earlier.)
Asset Test - Grades 10-12 (No Fee):
This test is available at York High School in the fall and spring for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who plan to attend a Nebraska community college, both academic junior colleges and technical colleges.
Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT)

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) - Grades 10-12 (No Fee):
This test was developed to motivate students to learn more about themselves and occupations they might find rewarding.
The program can help the student see how their interests, abilities, and personal preferences match civilian and military career opportunities. The ASVAB test will be given on Tuesday, December 5th.
