YES Fundraiser Ends with Fun for Students and Teachers

Everyone has heard the American Dairy Council's familiar slogan “Got Milk?”   Well, on Friday, March 20, as part of a school-wide fundraising event, the question poses to YES teachers was, “Got Talent?”

As the culminating event of a fundraising project, YES staff held a mock-talent show called “Teacher Idol” to entertain and reward YES students for their outstanding participation and generosity during the fund-raising event.

During the course of the fundraiser, students gave spare change to support recycling and the protection of our environment.    To add a little excitement and fun to the project, Principal Kris Friesen created an incentive chart so students had specific goals to work towards.  If students reached the top rung of the incentive ladder, Principal Friesen promised students some “big surprise.”   When student participation far exceed the top of the incentive chart, Principal Friesen had to make good on her promise. She and the YES faculty put their heads together and came up with the idea to hold the “Teacher  Idol” event.

Before the dismissal of school on Friday, the entire student body of YES gathered in front of the stage for the show.  Teachers entertained the YES students with songs, dances and outlandish skits. Several faculty members from other buildings even helped out.  Dressed as Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, YHS vice-principal Mitch Bartholomew and faculty members Chris Holder and Scott Kohmetscher served as judges.

So, YES faculty?....“Got Talent?”     According to Simon, Paula, Randy and the terrific students at YES…. Yes, you do!
