ENRICHMENT CENTER PHILOSOPHY

The Enrichment Center’s philosophy is based on the belief that all students can learn and have a right to a free, appropriate education, which is offered in an environment in which students can experience success. The student-centered program will encourage the alternative education students to prepare for high school graduation so that they can pursue appropriate post-secondary training. Emphasis on the “whole” learner will enable the student to develop social, emotional, behavioral, and intellectual skills in order to achieve success in the classroom, workplace, home and community.

WHAT IS THE ENRICHMENT CENTER?

The Enrichment Center provides an alternative education program, which facilitates progress for individuals by using a variety of structures and environments to create comfortable learning situations for the student.

WHO DOES THE ENRICHMENT CENTER SERVE?

• Students who have potential but are not experiencing success in a traditional school setting

• Students needing a flexible schedule

• Teen parents

• Students transitioning from contracted services

• Students who have dropped out of school

• Students returning from physical and/or emotional illness

• Students expelled or in danger of expulsion

• Students at-risk intellectually, emotionally, or socially

HOW ARE STUDENTS SERVED?

• Based on individual needs

• Individual action plans for each student outlining curriculum, schedule, and criteria for exiting the program

• Skill development in social, emotional, behavioral and intellectual domains

• Career focus

• Work-based learning

WHAT ARE THE EXIT CRITERIA?

• Student earns high school diploma

• Student transitions to and/or re-enrolls at a traditional school

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES?

• Increased proficiency in basic skills

• Increased standardized test scores

• Career/vocational exploration

• Conflict resolution

• Appropriate career choices

• Increased self-confidence

• Increased student productive behavior

• Increased attendance and punctuality

• Increased student recognition of relevancy of education to employment

• Increased graduation rate

WHO CAN MAKE STUDENT REFERRALS?

• Parents, teachers, counselors, or administrators

• Self-referrals by students who have dropped out of school
