Snow Day Make Up Plan

SNOW DAY MAKE UP PLAN

***Please note:  The 2 hour late start on February 15, 2010 will not need to be made up.***

It looks like it could be a long winter with many challenges.  We need to make up some lost school time to meet accreditation guidelines and increase our chances to qualify for additional state aid.  In order to help our parents and families plan ahead, we’re sharing what our “make up plan” is as we move into February.

Here’s what we know we need to do even if we don’t have any more school cancellations or late starts.  Please go ahead and make the following changes on your calendars:

  • We will now have school on Friday, February 19th (this is listed as a “school improvement day” on school calendars)
  • All five Wednesdays in March will now be full days of school (they are listed as    2:00 dismissals on school calendars)   March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st
  • Thursday, April 1st will now be a full day of school (this is listed as a 12:00 dismissal on school calendars)
  • All four Wednesdays in April will now be full days of school (they are listed as 2:00 dismissals on school calendars) April 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th

*** If we have no more school closings, the four adjustments above are all we will need to do.

  • -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If we do have more school cancellations, we will need to add those on to the end of our school year using this plan:

  • 1 more snow day = school on Friday, May 21st
  • 2 more snow days = May 21st and having school on Monday, May 24th
  • 3 more snow days = the two above and Tuesday, May 25th
  • 4 more snow days = the three above and Wednesday, May 26th
  • 5 more snow days = the four above and Thursday, May 27th
  • 6 more snow days = the five above and Friday, May 28th
  • -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** Please notice that Monday, February 22nd remains a day that we do not have school as it is our turn to host the Central Conference Speech Meet.

** We left Spring Break as it is due to the fact that many students’ families have made arrangements to be gone over that time.  No school for sure on March 11th and 12th.

** We left Easter Break as it is due to the fact that our public survey, as well as staff feedback, showed that the majority of our 300+ responders preferred to extend the school year in May or didn’t have a preference.  No school for sure on April 2nd and 5th.

** GRADUATION will not change regardless of how many more snow days we have.  (May 23rd @ 2:00)

Plans like this are never fun or easy.  Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
