Keyboarding and Computer Applications

LENGTH OF COURSE:                1 Semester     

PREREQUISITE(S):                      NONE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed for students who need the basic technology skills for modern communication.

Students will develop speed and accuracy skills on the keyboard.

Students will acquire skills in word processing of reports, tables, letters, and business forms.

Students will develop such skills in the application of computer functions such as date base, spreadsheet, word processing, and integration.


Computer Studies I

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Computer Studies I is discovering how to use computers and computer applications to increase student productivity, how to access information, and how to create information and interesting presentations.

Student work activities:

Applying formatting procedures to text and graphic images.
Preparing documents (example: term papers) and presentations.
Maintaining and using the computer operating systems.
Mastering application software at the intermediate to advanced level.

Emphasis is on: Application of Learned Skills, Technical Reading, Critical Thinking


Computer Studies II

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Computer Studies II is discovering how to use advanced computer applications to increase student productivity and how to create advanced business documents and presentations. Students will demonstrate higher-level thinking skills in using computer applications and in creating solutions to advanced business simulations.

Student work activities:

Applying advanced formatting procedures to text and graphical images.
Preparing advanced documents and presentations.
Maintaining and using the computer operating systems.
Mastering application software at the advanced level.
Accessing and using remote data.

Emphasis is on:  Application of Learned Skills, Technical Reading, Critical Thinking.


Marketing

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Marketing I is designed to provide students with fundamental concepts, principles, skills and attitudes common to the fields of marketing and management. Instruction will focus on the marketing functions of distribution, financing, management of marketing information, pricing, product planning for goods and services, promotion, purchasing, risk management, selling, management, and entrepreneurship. It may also include basic education, business, and economic foundations. Students will also be provided with an introduction to marketing careers and understanding of our market economy.


Business Management

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students will learn the fundamentals of business management and develop the skills necessary to own or operate a business. Business plans will be analyzed and evaluated. Students will study all aspects of managing a business including productions, marketing, and human resources. This course is designed for students who are considering a career in business management, further study in business administration, or self-employment in any occupation.

A study of the basic language of business that includes gaining knowledge of accounting concepts, principles, and practices.

  • Applying accounting procedures to service and merchandising enterprises organized as proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.
  • Preparing source documents and financial statements.
  • Maintaining journals and posting to ledgers.
  • Solving 2 or 3 accounting practice sets.
  • Auditing and adjusting accounting records.
  • Using computer and control systems.

Accounting II is for all students who have an interest in any business field.

Personal Finance

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to help students manage their resources and to make sound personal finance decisions. It will provide an overview of the opportunities used to determine how economic factors affect planning and budgeting. Students will learn to improve their judgment and abilities in using money, financial institutions, and investment opportunities.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course provides instruction in HTML programming and using the School-Center software that runs the York Public Schools web-site. Students will explore the programming language of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) which is the language used to code web-sites on the Internet. Students will learn to code a web page manually using HTML and will then move into using School-Center web design software to help maintain and update the York Public Schools web presence. Students will develop new idea for themes  on the school web-site as well as helping staff continually update and make their web pages more usable by parents, students, and community members.
